Polyera is a leading supplier of materials technology for the printed electronics industry. The printed electronics industry develops electronics products that are manufactured by printing processes similar to those used to produce newspapers. This manufacturing approach is enabled by novel semiconductor and dielectric materials that can be formulated into solutions. These solutions, or functional inks, are then printed on plastic films in several patterned layers to produce a logic circuit.

The use of printing to produce circuits has two tremendous impacts on the electronics industry. First, due to the incredible throughput of printing processes, the cost of manufacturing electronics is dramatically lowered. Second, because printing is compatible with plastic substrates, the production of flexible and large-area electronics is made possible. Consequently, enormous new market opportunities in the electronics industry are being opened by the development of printed electronics technology. Industry analysts forecast that the worldwide market for printed electronics will be $30 billion by 2015 and could grow to $300 billion by 2025.

Polyera was founded in August of 2005 and draws on 7 years of research in the field of organic electronic materials conducted by Professor Tobin J. Marks' group at Northwestern University. Professors Tobin J. Marks and Antonio Facchetti, both founding scientists of Polyera, are recognized worldwide for their breakthroughs in the development of organic semiconductors and dielectrics. Polyera is located in the Illinois Science and Technology Park, approximately 30 minutes north of downtown Chicago and 10 minutes west of Northwestern University.
